Beschreibung:

The illustration is either from a second volume of an album called Shidare Yanagi (The Weeping Willow; published by Kanaya Heiemon, Kyoto) or, more likely, another album entitled Midare fuji (Rambling Wisteria). The courtesan Echizen leans on a cushion and, using a suzuri-bako with ink stone and water dropper has chosen a brush to write on a letter paper. The courtesan Kinko arranges the hair of a young man seated before a mirror. The figures are depicted with a large, uchiwa-fan shaped cartouche. The influence of Torii Kiyonobu is sensed in Yoshikiyo's style; Kiyonobu's depiction of courtesans in Keisei ehon of 1700 served as Yoshikiyo's model.
