Beschreibung:

Mama, located ten miles east of Edo (present day Tokyo), was well known for its abundance of Japanese maple trees. Here, they frame a serene vista containing the shrine and bridge, both sites rendered minuscule in the sprawling countryside. The hue of leaves and the geese in flight indicate that it is autumn. The striking orange color of the foliage, achieved with red lead or iron oxide, is remarkably well preserved. Unlike many other examples of the same print in American collections, this version is largely free of darkening that usually occurs when metals in the pigments oxidize.
