Beschreibung:

The title refers to the battle of Yashima but the scene depicts an event which is generally believed to have occurred at the battle of Dan-no-ura on April 25, 1185. Taira warriors who fled the Minamoto assault on Ichi-no-tani fortress saved the child-emperor Antoku. They were pursued by Minamoto Yoshitsune in ships supplied by his half-brother Yoritomo and local warlords. He attacked the new Taira stronghold at Yashima on Shikoku Island in March 1185. The Taira fled further west and, during the final battle of the Genpei War, Yoshitsune's Genji/Minamoto fleet of 850 ships clashed with the Heike/Taira
