Beschreibung:
Shiro KASAMATSU (1898-1991) "Tea Ceremony" 1949 Print size is 16" x 11" Early Edition Pristine condition No tears, folds or creases. This print is perfect in every way Strong image bleedthrough to verso Master Kasamatsu was reknowned for his romantic landscapes depicting traditional Japanese life and landmarks. His use of foreground elements, like branches, to draw in the viewer and give the image depth, was a design technique first employed by Ukiyo-e Master Hiroshige. This early strike evidences the publisher's watermark (GEI) in the lower right corner and the all-important double carver (Nagashima)/printer (Shinmi) seals as well as the artist seal. Master Shinmi is quite elderly and has long been retired, evidencing this print to be an early edition. Master Kasamatsu is well-known worldwide for his breathtaking landscape images in the classic shin hanga tradition. This rare departure from the customary Kasamatsu images, that are all known and loved by all, is stunning indeed. Note the incredible detail and fine features of this classic bijin-ga (beautiful woman) print. The execution and registration of this rare early strike is exquisite. Note the bold colours in the kimono. This incredible print is quite bold, but yet so exquisitely delicate. A true study in contrast and design. The sophisticated use of bokashi (gradation of colour) is used extensively throughout the print.
