One Hundred Views of Edo: # 39 Artist: Hiroshige I Format: Oban tate-e: 14.5" x 9.75" Subject: 'Distant View of Kinryuzan Temple and Azuma Bridge'. A gust of Spring wind carries a shower of cherry petals over the roof of a pleasure boat with a half hidden Geisha with an elaborate hairpin and an elegantly patterned Obi and overgarnment, which is setting out from the Mukojima side of the Sumida and heading across to the mouth of the San'ya Canal. The example being offered is first state of the first edition with purple bokashi at top. For an example of the second state see 'One Hundred Famous Views of Edo', Brooklyn Museum # 39. Examples of first edition impressions have become increasingly rare and expensive and so we are pleased to be offering this example without reserve price. Publisher: Uoya Eikichi Date: 1857 Condition: Very good colors with nominal fading of purple. Full size with large margins. Some small stains mainly in margins. Some edge damages and thinned spots in margins. Minor marks and flaws. Generally moderately good state of preservation. Impression: Fine impression of the first state of the first edition.
