Beschreibung:

The painter and print designer Hokkei was one of the most successful students of the great master Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849). In this print, travelers are shown climbing Fudö Pass in the Mikuni Mountains of Közuke Province. Clouds rise from gullies on either side of the path, and an orange sun appears in the distance. Two travelers at the right wash their hands in a waterfall, while an image of the Esoteric Buddhist deity Fudö Myö-ö at the upper right watches over the pass. Hokkei personifies the sculpture of the Fudö Myö-ö here. With strange shape clouds and unusual color combination of yellow, orange, green and blue, Hokkei shows this unique scene. This is one of eight prints in the Michener Collection from Hokkei's series Famous Views of the Provinces, published at about the same time as Hokusai's series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. (from Hokusai His Students exhibition 1/30/2007-)
