Half-length portrait of the kabuki actor Sawamura Tossho II in the role of Sasaki Gennosuke, in the play 'Sawamurasaki ayame no nureiro' (沢紫菖蒲艶) performed at the Morita theatre, Tokyo from the 2nd day of the 5th month of 1870 (Meiji 3). One of a group of five kabuki actor portraits in a style imitating photographs.
